What is MMF Anyway????
“MMF” is an acronym for Male/Male/Female, a categorization that implies a true “triangle” polyamorous relationship in which everyone is equally involved romantically. It’s the antithesis of the dreaded old-school “love triangle” where one of the three gets left out in the cold.
It’s my fave genre of romance, and if this is appeals to you too, then welcome to the club!
So let me tell you a story…
When I got back into writing fanfiction, I immediately was drawn to writing MMF. This…well, to put it gently, this was not a popular option in 2008 fandom spaces (still isn’t, in some spaces) and I was immediately slapped with the dreaded epithet, “mary sue author.” Seeing the writing on the wall, and not being very confident in myself (and also? Those were some rough years personally, and fandom/fanfiction were my safe harbor, a place to escape) I backed out of writing MMF. For years.
Then I wrote Wolves of Harmony Heights on a dare. It was originally supposed to be a fun romp for NaNoWriMo, so I decided since I wanted to write MMF deep down in my soul, I’d just leap in and do it!
Spoiler: I LOVED IT.
I wrote other books, and under a pen name I also write MM (male/male) romance fiction, which I also love writing and was a direct result of all my fanfiction. So it’s not like I have not been busy!
But I kept coming back to wanting to write MMF romances. The MMF category is not very well populated, and most of what is there is erotica. I admit there are a couple of steamy scenes in WoHH, but it’s not erotica by a long shot. I wanted to write complex stories about interesting people who fall in love, and who happen to fall in love in a triangular fashion!
Stepping back a bit from what I had previously been doing, I realized that I needed to stop forcing myself to write stories I don’t enjoy writing, much less don’t enjoy reading. I pulled a few stories that were out there and decided to rebrand myself as a MMF Romance Author (note the caps!).
Under the Hood
What can you expect in my stories? Romance! Threesomes! Intricate plotting and a lot of world building! Did I mention, romance?
What I want to write about are people overcoming their own reservations and fears and insecurities in order to learn to accept the love being given to them, and to build a hopeful future together.
Sometimes the romance will start with an established couple who both fall in love with a third partner; occassionally it will be three strangers crashing together to find love and adventure. There will always, always be a happy ending for all three!
WARNING
My MMF stories are NOT FOR YOU if:
- You think polyamorous relationships equal cheating
- You only want MF or MM
- You don’t want “swords touching” (i.e., “MFM” where the men do not touch each other)
- You want a lot of sex scenes (some of my stories will have sex scenes, but the stories revolve around the romantic relationships and complicated plots!)
About Me
I’m K.C. York and I enjoy telling stories, but otherwise I’m pretty trustworthy.
I used to be the kid who stayed up late at night reading books under the covers with a flashlight…and honestly not a lot has changed. Thank goodness my smartphone has a flashlight app.
Most importantly, I own the best dog — the BEST, sorry, I don’t make the rules — who is adorable and cuddly. She’s a rescue with a mysterious past, and deserves a book series of her own. Or a tv show. Although admittedly she sleeps about 20 hours a day so it would not make for riveting tv.
I also have a “real” life with a productivity coaching business and favorite restaurants and deep, abiding aversion to vacuuming. You know, as you do. If you are looking for my bona-fides, you’ll have better luck visiting kimbooyork.net.
